motive of making this site
Don't you think "Aren't German Shepherd
dogs black and tan?"?
White German Shepherd dogs which
are disqualifying
fault as German Shepherd dog
seem to be treated
as nuisance in Japan. There wasn't
many information
about White Shepherd dogs back
in 1990s,
so I decided to make website
so that public
would come to know this beautiful
breed and
discrimination would be less.
White Shepherd dogs are not rare
nor "hard
to find" kind of breed.
There are many
breeders adds in US magazines
and NOT treated
as a rare breed.
Recently, there are pet retailers
who deal
White Shepherd dogs. Siberian
Husky and Golden
Retriever became very popular
once and resulted
in poor abandoned dogs, I don't
want White
Shepherd dogs to go through the
same doom
so it may be better for the breed
to remain
not easy to get dogs in Japan
and only people
who don't mind importing by themselves
can
own.
These days the breed is introduced in breed
books or other media and many poeple are
interested in owning one. In fact, people
who offer a pup at nearly 1 million yen or
breed every season already exist so I wish
this site could be some help to make right
decision as a wise buyer.

What is White Shepherd? |
Adaan 3 months old
Long coat male |
It's called in various names because it's
not recognized as purebred but
White Shepherd
is German Shepherd dog in white
coat as right
photo.
In USA, it's called White Shepherd dog or
White German Shepherd. It's also called American
Canadian White Shepherd in Europe but no
matter how it's called, they are all the
same as a breed. This breed has been mainly
bred in North America, so the country of
origin is often stated USA now.
White Shepherd is not very popular
in Japan
yet but are owned all over the
world not
only in North America and Europe
but also
in Brazil, South Africa, Australia,
Malaysia
etc. There are tens of thousand
of White
Shepherds in USA alone.
White Shepherd was originally
the same to
German Shepherd other than color.
Since White
Shepherd had become disqualifying
fault as
German Shepherd and had been
bred without
strict standard, breeders preferences
were
reflected thus White Shepherd
is not identical
to German Shepherd now.(eg. label
back, mild
temperment) Because of "the
bigger the
better" concept, there are
breeders
whose selling point of dogs are
100+ lb. |
Is White Shepherd "hard to find"?
Somehow people want to describe/call white
shepherds "rare" or "maboroshi"
in Japanese which can mean so rare that existance
maybe questionable. (--;)
It's true that there aren't many in Japan
now but nothing more than that. They are
not endangered breed nor one in thousands
mutant. As you can see from AKC registration
number, around 5000 dogs are registered every
year in USA alone. Do you call dogs existing
tens of thousand "rare in the world"?
Members of White Shepherd Association of
Australia DO NOT advertise dogs as rare.
If you call animals that are
not(very much)
in Japan "rare(maboroshi)",
anything
could be "rare".
For example, Shiloh Shepherd
and King Shepherd.(are
they concidered just huge GSD
in Japan?).
Other example for "oh, is
there such
color variation?", American
Short hair(cat)
in white coat. American Short
hair is a bit
different in a sense white is
not a fault.
It's not that you can call something
you
don't know existance "rare".
White Shepherd seems to be recognized like
white tigers or lions.
OK, let's assume White Shepherd were rare.
But why are White Shepherds being eliminated
while other white animals such as white tiger
or albino animals are regarded pracious and
protected?
What I have trouble understanding the most
is breeders who are capable of
eliminating
white pups of their loving dogs
because they
aren't "desireble".
Unfortunately,
the white shepherd/GSD situation
in Japan
is showing that most of GSD breeders
in Japan
fall into this type. I do not
(want to) think
all of them are willing to eliminate
white
pups but it's horrible if they
never even
felt "can't I let them live?".
If you breed, no matter what
the resulting
pups are, you should be responsible
for all
pups through their whole lives.
Not only
white coat pups but also pups
with incurable
deseases, deafness or even with one eye or without arm under
elbow MUST be well taken care of. You can't
afford to take care of money consuming dogs
with no market value? Then, don't breed.
What on earth is the merit of
discribing
dogs existing tens of thousands
"very
rare even in the world"?
Is it a self-satisfaction
that s/he is owning what others
don't? I
would not have minded indivisual
pet owners
say white shepherds are rare
but pet dealers,
so called breeders or media saying
so is
nothing but theri ignorance,
not studying
hard enough and makes me think
they say "rare"
just to sell in higher price.
The reason
we don't see white shepherds
as often as
GSD is because we have been eliminating
them
saying "whites are disqualifying
fault".
Does it make sense to start making
much of
whties for now that whites came
to get public
attention, without mentioning
such history
background(do they know the history
at all
in the first place?)?
I frawn to these adjectives because it helps
pepole who put unbelievable price and I don't
want people who are not wholeheartedly devoted
to dogs to get involved with this breed.
The prices above were the priced
actually
I was presented. For your information,
price
of white shepherd pups are US
500 to 1000
dollars. Japanese market price
is higher
than other countries so this
price might
seem cheap but the price is about
the same
of GSD pups. The price also can
tell you
that white shepherd is not rare
but exist
just like GSD.
People who only want something
"rare",
white shepherds are all over
the world already.
